Our Team

Dr. Mia Ward serves as the Engagement Coach Admin for Talladega and the Birmingham site during the summer and Thrive Recruitment Support for fall and spring. She is a proud alumnus of Miles College, where she earned a BS in Education, Alabama State University, where she received her Master’s in Counseling, and Nova Southeastern University (Miami), where she obtained her Doctorate in Educational Leadership. Dr. Ward believes that empowering scholars involves elaborating, engaging, explaining, exploring, and evaluating. She also infuses an energetic coaching style that attracts others through enjoyment and confidence. Her connections bridge parental and community gaps within Breakthrough Birmingham. My relationships with past and present educators, counselors, and principals have fostered an open-door policy that connects Breakthrough Birmingham with middle school scholars. She continually learns by attending professional development workshops, parent and community meetings, and reading to stay current with new policies and school changes. In her free time, she enjoys sports, having once been a semi-pro basketball player!
